CROTON, N.Y. -- Kyle Smelser and Ryan Steeg combined on a three-hitter as Armonk defeated Briarcliff, 4-1 in a District 33 Little League Baseball nine-ten-year-old losers bracket game at Dobbs Park Wednesday.
Armonk will play the winner of Bedford Hills-Cortlandt American, Thursday, 6 p.m., at Putnam Valley. The winner of this game advances to the losers bracket final, Saturday, 10 a.m., at Peekskill.
Smelser allowed one run on three hits and had two strikeouts in four innings. Steeg earned the save, going the final two innings and striking out two. Dan DiSano went three-for-three, including a double and a run scored, for Armonk. David McDaniels and Steeg each had run-scoring singles in the first and fifth innings, respectively.
John Addeo and Smelser also scored runs. The kids played a fundamentally sound game, Armonk manager Frank DiMarco said. They fielded everything that came their way. Our pitchers threw strikes, hit their spots and got ahead of the batters early. They both did a great job.
