Briarcliff School Board Picks Satran

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Jonathan Satran will join the Briarcliff Board of Education to replace former Vice President Rosella Ranno, who announced her resignation June 30.

Satran, Wei Zhao and John Zade interviewed for the position Wednesday night at Briarcliff Middle School during the school board’s special meeting. The board selected Satran Friday morning during a special meeting. Satran has a financial background and volunteered on the district’s ad hoc facilities committee last year. Board Vice President Jennifer Rosen said Friday she was happy to bring Satran on board.

“We're very pleased to bring John on board. He's going to be able to hit the ground running,” Rosen said, adding that it was important Satran regularly attended board meetings the last few years.

Satran said Wednesday night he is hoping to help improve the district’s safety, deal with declining enrollment and provide financial expertise on the budget.

“I’m volunteering to join the board to make sure the school district remains the strong educational foundation it has been since we moved here,” Satran said Wednesday night. Satran also has chaired the finance subcommittee that proposed the recently approved $10 million school bond. “The last 10 years I've spent working as a financial analyst, so I’m confident I bring a strong financial background.”

The board issued the following statement Friday morning:

"We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Jonathan Satran to fill the Board of Education Trustee vacancy created by the resignation of Mrs. Rosella Ranno.  The term of this appointment is to end on May 21, 2013. We want to thank the other board candidates, Mrs. Wei Zhao and Mr. John Zade for their interest in serving as Trustees of the Briarcliff Manor School District. We look forward to their involvement and collaboration in future school district matters."
