WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The "Toy Squad" at Briarcliff Middle School only opened an umbrella at the Westchester Engineering Expo, but doing so was enough to make them champions.
The middle school science and engineering team took part in the Expo's 2016 Rube Goldberg machine contest and used toys to open the weather accessory in 11 steps, according to a statement from the school district. The team members took home first place for their efforts.
Rube Goldberg's granddaughter was on hand to award the contest winners at the April 3 event.
With the contest win, the Briarcliff Middle School team qualifies for the national Rube Goldberg machine contest.
