As always, its theme is “Activism: Making Change.”
“The films represent the social fabric of our community in Teaneck,” said Jeremy Lentz, executive director of the festival.
“We select films from all over the world,” he added, “including features, documentaries, shorts, and programming for children.”
They will be shown at three venues — the Puffin Cultural Forum, Temple Emeth, and Teaneck Cinemas, the oldest theater in Bergen County.
The festival is a project of The Puffin Foundation, a national organization based in Teaneck that funds artists who have been marginalized.
So the activism theme reflects Puffin’s mission as well as the diversity of Teaneck, the first township in the history of the country that voted to racially integrate its school system in the 1960s.
Twenty to 30 films will be shown, Lentz said.
On its Facebook page, the festival has announced that films will deal with such themes as fair trade, gun control, child trafficking, abortion rights, the Syrian refugee crisis, civil rights in the U.S. and more.
Some of the films that have been chosen to date are “The Last Laugh,” which deals with humor and the Holocaust; “Last Cab to Darwin,” an Australian film about euthanasia; and “After Spring,” which shows what it’s like to live in Zaatari, the largest camp for Syrian refugees.
Also on the roster is “Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise,” which illuminates the life of the famed writer.
