Officers were called to the Exxon station around 7 p.m. June 9 on a report that a man and woman were turned down in making a large cigarette purchase because the clerk recognized them from a similar attempted purchase a week earlier, police said.
The suspects left, but officers located their car at the Shake Shack parking lot shortly thereafter. Police found the suspects, Geraldy Beraud, 23, of St. Albans, N.Y., and Aliyah Somerville, 23, of Rosedale, N.Y., inside the restaurant, police said.
Officers found several credit cards with Beraoud’s and Somerville’s names on them in one of the restaurant’s bathroom garbage cans. They were determined to be fakes, police said.
Officers also found the 20 cases of cigarettes in the car’s trunk, police said.
Beraud and Somerville were each charged with unlawful completion or reproduction of a credit card, tampering with evidence, credit card counterfeiting/forgery, conspiracy to commit credit card counterfeiting, conspiracy to commit unlawful reproduction of a credit card, conspiracy to commit tampering with evidence, police said.
Beraud was held on $25,000 bond. Somerville was held on $10,000 bond.
They are scheduled to appear in court on June 20.
