BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. The street lights at the intersection of Route 9A and North State Road in Briarcliff Manor were turned on following the end of the Con Edison work stoppage.
The intersection needed repairs following the effects of several storms last year and one incident of vandalism earlier this year. Officials replaced the guard rail and sidewalk and added the street lights to make the intersection easier to navigate. The Con Edison work stoppage slowed the process of getting the lights turned on, but Village Manager Philip Zegarelli said Con Edison officials expedited the process when they returned to work last month.
Virtually a week after they found out about it, they called us up and made sure to take care of the work order, Zegarelli said Thursday. We expected a backlog of work orders but they took care of us right away.
Now, village officials are putting together initial plans to provide for significant changes at the intersection, according to Zegarellis recent village manager report. One complicating issue is that several jurisdictions, including Westchester County and the State of New York, each have rights to the parts of the intersection.
To do this correctly, we anticipate that the costs will be high, Zegarelli wrote. We will be actively seeking available funding to address the need.
Zegarelli said Thursday the village spent roughly $1 million, largely using state and federal funding, to make the repairs to North State Road in the last year.
We just finished that work and we would like to do some other things but were not there yet, Zegarelli said, adding that the Board of Trustees are set to discuss possible project ideas at future meetings.
