Second Assistant Chief Paul Dillon said firefighters responded to the home at 7:15 a.m. when it heard a report of smoke coming the wall.

Firefighters found the fire, kept it contained and extinguished it, Dillon said. There were no injuries to the firefighters or homeowners, while the home sustained moderate damage, Dillon said.

Dillon said it took them about an hour to extinguish the blaze with firefighters then staying for another hour. The way the building was constructed made battling the blaze a little difficult, Dillon said.

"The volunteer firefighters of the Yorktown Fire Department did an excellent job," Dillon said.

The fire department was assisted by the Bedford Hills Fire Department and Peekskill Fire Department. Mohegan Lake and Millwood Fire Departments stood by at the firehouse.
