BRIARCLIFF MANOR and OSSINING N.Y. Residents may see discolored water this week as hydrant flushing resumes, officials in Briarcliff Manor and Ossining said.
Both the Village of Ossining and the Village of Briarcliff Manors hydrant flushing programs started this week. Work in the Village of Briarcliff Manor is scheduled to last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the week. The Village of Ossining Water Department will continue the semiannual hydrant-flushing from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. to minimize disruptions to residents, according to a statement. The entire hydrant-flushing program is scheduled to last three weeks.
Officials warn of possible discoloration in tap water but say there is nothing to fear.
Do not be alarmed, a representative with the water department said in a statement. Just run your water for a short period of time and it should clear up.
Briarcliff Manor Village Manager Philip Zegarelli said previously that the water does not contain harmful bacteria.
Residents can expect discolored water at any time (but particularly) during the day starting from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., he said in a village manager report. Please understand that you may wish to alter such activities such as your laundry routine: avoiding these time periods in particular. However, even if discolored, continuing laboratory testing has indicated that in the past the water has contained no harmful bacteria.
If discoloration persists, Ossining residents are asked to notify the Water Department at 941-6111.
