Briarcliff Village Hall Gets Spring Cleaning

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Summer hasn’t even arrived yet but Village of Briarcliff Manor crews are making sure the village hall will be ready for winter.

Construction workers are resurfacing the sidewalks and curbs in front of village hall to better withstand the elements during the winter months. Village Manager Philip Zegarelli said in addition, the parking lot in front of the hall will be given new lights. He also hopes the village will be able to repave the area in front of the fire hall and village hall.

“We took the existing trees out so we could put lights in there,” Zegarelli said. “We’re going to replant those trees, don’t get me wrong, but we had a problem with our emergency officials and our village officials being able to see when they were outside at night.”

Zegarelli said the project would use more energy-efficient LEDs and the same sidewalk façade seen on North State Road. The North State Road project was the site of reported vandalism earlier this month but road crews recently finished construction on the area.

“We still need to add the lights and guardrail in at North State Road,” Zegarelli said Thursday, adding that the projects could both finish in the next couple of months. “Putting down the surfacing of the sidewalks is a lengthy process. That’s why the vandalism we witnessed was so frustrating because we couldn’t touch it for a while even after it was damaged. So it set us back quite a bit.”

The construction in front of village hall will not be complete before Saturday's Briarcliff Manor Volunteer Fire Department Open House, Zegarelli said, but the parking lot and access would still be open to the public. The open house is scheduled to run from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday in conjunction with dozens of other volunteer fire departments around the state as part of National Volunteer Week.
