BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. Atria Briarcliff Manor threw a party last weekend to celebrate the 67th wedding anniversary of two residents and the recent marriage of a staff member.
"The celebration was truly magical. The residents enjoyed being a part of the intergenerational marriage celebrations," said Ryan Linehan, Atria's engage life director, who recently got married to Ashling Baker Linehan, a marketing and sales person for a magazine based in New York City.
A mock marriage ceremony was performed for the Linehans by Janis Knorr, the executive director of Atria Briarcliff Manor.
"Most of the residents came out to witness the mock marriage of Ryan and Ashling, as well as celebrate 67 years of happy marriage between Ken and Viola Weber," Linehan said in an email.
Ken and Viola Weber met at a church Christmas pageant in the Bronx when Viola was 12 and Ken was 15. Viola was dressed as Angel Gabriel in the pageant and later, when Ken forgot Viola's name in high school, he called her "Angel" every time he met her.
Ken Weber said the secret to his happy marriage is "a mutual agreement on how we treat each other based on respect," and Viola said "It's the grace of God."
