The Ossining Extension Center offers a variety of courses such as the Pharmacy Technician program which prepares students to enter the pharmacy field by learning medical terminology, the role and responsibilities of a pharmacy technician and developing the skills needed to work under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Another new course at the Ossining Extension Center is the Clinical Medical Assistant Program. In this two-semester course, students will learn administrative and clinical responsibilities that are performed under the direction of a physician. This course includes infection control, routine laboratory procedures, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology basics.

In addition to the courses, students will gain hands-on experience in a clinical setting. After successful completion of the course, students can obtain an NHA certification, which is necessary in order to become a medical assistant.

The growth of the aging baby-boom population will continue to increase demand for preventive medical services, which are often provided by physicians. As their practices expand, physicians will hire more assistants to perform routine administrative and clinical duties, allowing the physicians to see more patients.

Classes for Pharmacy Technician and Clinical Medical Assistant will begin in January 2017. For more information visit the Westchester Community College website.
