Watermelon was the "secret ingredient" and Plumhoff selected watermelon salsa for the competition's recipe, said a release.

Atria residents in the audience watched as judges tasted Plumhoff's and Lopez' salsas.

Although both recipes contained the same ingredients, mango, cucumber, onion, lime, cilantro, and the watermelon, the textures and tastes were different, according to the judges, which decided the challenger was the winner.

The volunteers, Stephen DeName, Past District Governor of the Lions Club, Frank Proger, Sales Director for Bright Star Home Care, Atria Briarcliff Resident Council President, Bob Ungar, and Atria volunteer, Rena Goldstein, served as judges.
