Fallen Briarcliff Firefighter To Be Honored At Golf Outing

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Matthew Goldman said he will always remember Ron Jankowski not just as a Briarcliff Manor firefighter, but a dear friend and mentor.

The Ron Jankowski Golf Outing, honoring the longtime Briarcliff Manor firefighter, begins on Oct. 15 at Sleepy Hollow Country Club.

"He always took the new members of the fire department under his wing and I'm one of those people he took under his wing," said Goldman, who is helping coordinate the fourth annual Ron Jankowski Golf Outing that will help raise money this October for the fire department and create scholarships for Westchester students. "From day one, he helped me train and made sure I was ready and we became really good friends."

The golf outing honoring Jankowski is set for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 15 at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club. The event, which is still looking for sponsors, is seeking to raise money to offer thousands of dollars in scholarships to Briarcliff Manor, Ossining and Mahopac students. Money raised at the outing will also go toward continuing programs at the fire department that Jankowski once taught.

"He gave so much to me and I want to give so much back to him in any way I can," Goldman said. "He meant a lot to this community and this outing is a great way for people to come out and show their support for him."

The golf outing, along with the Ron Jankowski Memorial 5K held earlier this year, will combine to raise thousands of dollars and help local students and members of the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department enrolled in college.

"He was a wonderful friend, a father and a firefighter and I think this is the least we could do for someone who did so much for us," Goldman said. "These funds really help us become better and are very important for our firefighters to get the training they need."

To donate to the memorial fund or to sponsor the golf outing, residents are asked to visit the Ron Jankowski Memorial Fund website
