Rain Moves Briarcliff's Community Day To This Weekend

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Thunderstorms have put Briarcliff Manor’s annual Community Day Celebration on hold for a week.

The celebration is now set for 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Law Memorial Park, village officials said. Rain caused village officials to delay the festivities last weekend, and they were uncertain Monday what events would remain.

The Briarcliff Pool will be open 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, with various events scheduled throughout the afternoon and evening, Village Manager Philip Zegarelli confirmed in the village manager’s report.

The tri-state area's own John Pizzi, a comedian and ventriloquist who was featured last year on NBC’s hit show “America’s Got Talent,” was one of the highlights scheduled. Briarcliff Manor Recreation Department officials said Monday they were trying to get in touch with Pizzi about coming Saturday but were not able to confirm his appearance.

“This is the first year John’s going to be a part of Community Day, and we’re really excited to have him,” Henry Jamin, Briarcliff Manor Recreation Department superintendent, said last week. “The community loves this event, and it’s a great way to wrap up the summer. We always try to bring in quality entertainers, and John should put on a great show. It was cool to see someone local on national television and to be able to bring him out here.”

Village officials were also organizing the first Drive About on Community Day. Zegarelli previously said he’s hopeful dozens of classic cars will join in a drive around the village starting at noon at Law Memorial Park. More car buffs are still needed for the Drive About, Zegarelli said in his village manager’s report.

Those looking to sign up for the Drive About or seeking more information about Community Day should contact the Briarcliff Recreation Department at 914-941-6560.
