BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. Philip Zegarelli says hes no meteorologist, but its probably safe to say no more severe winter storms are heading toward Briarcliff Manor .
With that in mind the village manager recently announced that the winter overnight street parking ban has been lifted. The rule bans parking on certain village streets from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. to allow a clear route for snowplows. But as daytime temperatures hovered around 70 degrees this week, Zegarelli lifted the ban.
Could we get snow? Yes, I dont want to jinx anything, Zegarelli joked this week. Youre in spring now so its longer days in sun, so if it happens we wouldnt expect it to last. But well work around people if it does and not issue tickets or anything.
Zegarelli said the ban typically begins in December, but thats not when winter occurred this year.
This winter was really unique. The winter was basically before Halloween, he said. Given everything, temperatures have been radiant. Even if it did snow, well just work around it. Spring came early this year, so we thought itd be nice to give everyone a nice gift to go with it.
Temperatures in Briarcliff Manor nearly reached 80 degrees this week, but the National Weather Service is predicting cooler weather ahead, with low temperatures Monday and Tuesday of 33 degrees. Zegarelli said Briarcliff Manor officials would notify residents of any winter storm warnings if they occurred, but said the parking ban will not be enforced until December.
