Briarcliff Parking Ban Lifted Due to Warm Weather

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Philip Zegarelli says he’s no meteorologist, but it’s probably safe to say no more severe winter storms are heading toward Briarcliff Manor .

With that in mind the village manager recently announced that the winter overnight street parking ban has been lifted. The rule bans parking on certain village streets from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. to allow a clear route for snowplows. But as daytime temperatures hovered around 70 degrees this week, Zegarelli lifted the ban.

“Could we get snow? Yes, I don’t want to jinx anything,” Zegarelli joked this week. “You’re in spring now so it’s longer days in sun, so if it happens we wouldn’t expect it to last. But we’ll work around people if it does and not issue tickets or anything.”

Zegarelli said the ban typically begins in December, but that’s not when winter occurred this year.

“This winter was really unique. The winter was basically before Halloween,” he said. “Given everything, temperatures have been radiant. Even if it did snow, we’ll just work around it. Spring came early this year, so we thought it’d be nice to give everyone a nice gift to go with it.”

Temperatures in Briarcliff Manor nearly reached 80 degrees this week, but the National Weather Service is predicting cooler weather ahead, with low temperatures Monday and Tuesday of 33 degrees. Zegarelli said Briarcliff Manor officials would notify residents of any winter storm warnings if they occurred, but said the parking ban will not be enforced until December.
