A three-alarm blaze in Newark on Monday, April 22 displaced 39 people. Now the community is coming together to lend a hand.
At 6:59 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire at 576 Broadway, an occupied 3-story, multi-use, multi-family building, that also houses a supermarket and El Kiosko Restaurant and Grill, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said.

12-Year-Old Newark Boy Missing For Almost Two Weeks: Police
Brayden Killings, a 12-year-year-old Newark boy has been missing since Friday, Nov. 17, police said.
Killings, who was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and oppositional defiant order, was last seen on the 100 block of Badger Avenue at 11 a.m., Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said.
He is 4'9" and weighs 90 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes, Fragé said. He was last seen wearing gray jeans, a gray hoodie and white and gray sneakers, Fragé said. He is a frequent runaway, Fragé said.

14 Newark Fugitives Captured In Warrant Roundup
A warrant roundup saw 14 fugitives arrested in Newark on Wednesday, Nov. 8 and Thursday, Nov. 9, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said.
The 14 people arrested were:
• Russell Fluker, 60, for aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and simple assault.
• Andre Harris, 33, for criminal mischief and violation of a temporary restraining order.
•Quasim Huggins, for robbery, conspiracy, and weapon possession.
•Alzahir Lancaster, for weapon possession, possession of prohibited weapons, and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession.

Man Missing After Walking Out Of Medical Center In Newark
Police in Newark were seeking the public's help in locating a missing man.
Tim Hammelman, 43, walked away from St. Michael’s Medical Center at 111 Central Ave., in Newark, around 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said.
He had been transported from Endeavor House Rehab Facility, 206 Bergen Ave., in Kearny.
Hammelman is described as a white male, 5'7" tall and 134 pounds. He has blonde hair, blue eyes, and was last seen wearing tennis shoes.

'No Questions Asked': NJ Buys Back Nearly 1,000 Guns
Authorities collected nearly 1,000 guns during no-questions-asked gun buybacks in Passaic, Essex and Atlantic counties, New Jersey’s top law enforcer said Thursday. They could soon be coming to a location near you.
The firearms came in all sizes, calibers, makes, models and ages, from a pearl-handled derringer to a reported 27 assault weapons.
The total also includes 487 handguns, 281 rifles and shotguns and 146 inoperable weapons and BB/pellet guns, New Jersey Acting Attorney General Andrew J. Bruck said.

Woman Killed In Newark Shooting Was Protecting Friend From Domestic Violence, Reports Say
A 21-year-old Newark woman was shot and killed while protecting her friend in an incident of domestic violence, news reports say.
Wesley Jean-Marie, of Valley Stream, New York, has been charged in the shooting death of Leeana Cottle, 21, of Newark, late Tuesday, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara.
Cottle allegedly was shot at about 11:30 p.m. on the 200 block of South 10th Street while attempting to shield her friend from 32-year-old Jean-Marie, RLS Media reports.
