Westchester County Teams Climb In MaxPreps' Football Rankings

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Archbishop Stepinac remained No. 2 in New York while Mamaroneck jumped 18 spots in the latest state football rankings by MaxPreps.

Semifinal times were also set for most games in the Section 1 playoffs on Friday and Saturday.

Stepinac (8-0) trails Canisius of Buffalo in the MaxPreps’ rankings. Stepinac plays its final regular season game Saturday at Monsignor Farrell in Staten Island.

Iona Prep, a 9-3 winner over Holy Cross on Sunday, climbed one spot to 11th in the MaxPreps’ rankings. The Gaels host Chaminade Saturday in their final regular season game.

The big mover of the week was Mamaroneck, which climbed to 34th with a 45-20 win over Scarsdale. New Rochelle (18th), Yorktown (44th) and Somers (46th) are also ranked in the top 50 among New York teams.

New Rochelle hosts Arlington Saturday in the Section 1 Class AA semifinals at 1:30 p.m. The Huguenots have allowed just 48 points in six games, one of the top figures in the state, with three shutouts. New Rochelle has not allowed more than 14 points in any game this season.

Mamaroneck plays at John Jay of East Fishkill on Saturday, but the time has not been released.

In Class A, Sleepy Hollow plays at Yorktown Friday at 7 p.m, and Somers travels to meet Rye on Saturday at 7 p.m.

In the Class C championship, Rye Neck meets Woodlands on Saturday at Mahopac High School. That game kicks off at noon.
