The Briarcliff High School continued a two-year dominance of Section 1 Class B baseball by winning a second straight title and advancing to the state final for the second year.
The Bears, who were 23-6 overall following a 20-7 record in 2011, blanked Keio 5-0 behind pitcher Paul Henshaw to win in the Section 1 Class B Championship game. The team rode the momentum to the state final for the second straight year.
In June, the Briarcliff spring track and field team sent six of its athletes to the New York State Public Schools Track and Field Championships. Madeline Zimmerman qualified for the state meet in the long jump, triple jump and 4x400 meter relay events along with relay runners Samantha Kirsch, Rebecca Bianco and Sharon Luan. Middle distance Sophie Feuer and Stephan Shine also qualified.
Bill Stopera of Briarcliff Manor distinguished himself in curling in February's 2012 USA Curling National Championships in Aston, Pa. by winning a gold medal. With the first place finish and undefeated run, Stopera and his Team McCormick secured a qualifying spot for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
