Shields Leads Pace Women to Eighth Straight Win

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Brittany Shields scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Wednesday to lift the Pace women's basketball team to a convincing 73-64 victory over visiting Merrimack College.

The Setters won their eighth straight game and advanced to 15-3 overall and 11-3 in the Northeast-10 conference, while the Warriors dropped to 3-15 overall and 2-12 in conference play.

After trailing 3-0 on an opening 3-pointer  by Merrimack the Setter took the lead early in the first and led by four with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. The teams would tie one more time at 2:53 remaining in the first half at 29-29 and there were two more lead changes before the half.

A jump shot by Kerri White put the Setters up 33-29 but a layup by the Warriors left the Setters down one 33-34 heading into halftime.

The Warriors would tie the game at 40-40 and the Setters managed to take an eight-point lead on a layup by Carol Johnson with 12 minutes remaining in the game. But Merrimack made another comeback and tied the game at the 7:20 mark.  The teams would tie for the last time, 56-56 before Pace took the final lead of the game.

White finished with 14 points, two rebounds, three assists and two steals and Maral Javadifar added 11 points, four rebounds and an assists and steal.

The Setters look to keep the winning-streak going when they visit Stonehill College Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. match up.
