Carol Johnson posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Setters womens basketball team defeated the Purple Knights of Saint Michaels College 57-51 in Northeast-10 Conference action Tuesday in Colchester, Vermont.
The Setters improved to 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Purple Knights fell to 5-6 and 2-5 in conference play.
The teams traded leads early in the game with the Purple Knights pulling ahead 22-15 with 6:46 left in the opening half. The Setters rallied with a 9-0 run capped off by a three-point play by Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, N.Y.) to put Pace up 24-22 with 4:11 remaining in the first half.
Saint Michaels tied the game at 24-24 and the teams traded baskets the rest of the first half, but Kerri White (Flushing, N.Y.) connected on her 100th collegiate three-pointer with 1:24 on the clock to give the Setters a 32-29 lead at halftime.
Pace took control of the game with a 13-2 run for a 45-36 lead midway through the second half. The Purple Knights closed to with five points in the final minute but the Setters held on for the win.
Margo Hackett (Pawling, N.Y.) led the Setters with 12 points, while Johnson (Bronx, N.Y.) led with her 10 rebounds.
The Setters are back in action on Saturday and will host the Falcons of Bentley University at the Goldstein Fitness Center in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up at 1:30 p.m.
