BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. The Briarcliff Bears have made last years winless football season a distant memory after four straight victories but the focus will change from rebuilding a program to a postseason playoff push when Ardsley visits Sunday at 7 p.m.
The Bears (4-0) are coming off another impressive performance, this one a 33-12 win over Yonkers High School in an aerial, big-play show. Quarterback Ryan Hooper hit receiver Jonathan Marrero for two scores and Jackson Plimpton for another and Marrero ran back a punt for another score.
Hooper completed 5 of 7 passes for 184 yards, three to Marrero for 163 yards. The Bears pass the ball at will and cause the defense all kinds of problems stretching out the field.
Ardsley (1-3) has lost three close games by a total of 15 points, the most recent a 7-6 loss to Putnam Valley. Dan Stein quarterbacks the Panthers and has completed 31 of 57 passes for 575 and 5 touchdowns and leads the team in rushing with 204 yards. Gabe Kardish is Steins key receiver with 13 receptions and more than 200 yards. Running back George DiFiore adds depth to the backfield.
Look for the Bears to continue throwing the ball until someone stops them. Ardsley must control the ball on the ground to keep the score down.
