Pace's Shields Named to East Region Second Team

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace’s Brittany Shields was selected to the Daktronics East Region Second Team for her play this season.

Shields, who also earned Northeast-10 Conference First Team All-Conference honors, led Pace with 17 points and 10 rebounds per game and shot 50.7 percent from the field. She had 12 double-doubles, which placed her third in the conference. 

She also ranked fourth in the conference in scoring and second in rebounds. The 5’10” forward was 25th in the nation in rebounding, 49th in scoring, 40th in field goal percentage and 26th in double-doubles. Shields had three straight double-doubles to start the season. 

Shields also made the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll 11 times this season. 

Shields, the NE-10 Rookie of the Year in 2008-09 and NE-10 Second Team selection last season, had several career highlights this season. She set a career high in rebounds with 17 against New Haven on Feb. 4 and scored her 1,000th career point in a win against Adelphi on Dec. 6. She became the 25th member of Pace’s 1,000-point club.

Shields is seventh in Pace University history in points with 1,323 and 11th in rebounds with 771. 

Pace finished third in the NE-10 Conference with a 20-8 overall record and 16-6 conference record. The fourth-seeded Setters will face fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament on Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Bentley University.
