Pace Women Lose in First Round of NCAA Tournament

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace’s season has ended. 

The fourth-seeded women’s basketball team lost to fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce University, 78-68, in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament on Friday. The Setters finished their season 20-9 overall. 

The Ravens led for the entire first half and started the game on an 8-0 run that took three minutes. Franklin Pierce’s largest lead was 21 points at 31-10 with 5:59 left in the first half.

Pace tried to claw its way back and ended the half on a 16-9 run behind Allison Cleary’s two three-pointers and another three-point play. Brianna Harris converted a three-point play of her own to close the gap to 40-26 at halftime.

The Setters got within seven at 48-41 with a little more than 13 minutes left, but the Ravens went on another 8-0 run to stretch the lead to 56-41 at the 9:10 mark.

Pace refused to quit and cut the lead to 60-55 with 4:35 left in the game. Franklin Pierce went back up by nine, but a three-point play from Kerri White with just less than two minutes remaining made it 66-62. From there, the Ravens hit 10-of-11 free throws to put the game away.

Brittany Shields had yet another double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. She also added two steals. Carol Johnson had 11 points and three assists. Cleary finished with nine points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. White totaled 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
