Pace Baseball Rallies in Extra Innings for Win

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace Setters needed extra innings but they rallied to defeat Nyack College, 7-4, Thursday in a non-conference game.

Pace (8-7) jumped ahead in the first inning when Chris Roemer singled, swiped second base and then scored when Patrick Chaputian singled. Kyle Turnier then hit a two-out double in the third inning, moved to third on a balk and scored when James Pjura smacked a single.

The Warriors (9-7) scored once in the third and once in the fifth to tie the game, which eventually went into extra innings.

In the top of the tenth, Pace exploded for five runs. Chaputian and Pjura both roped RBI singles and Ian Wukitsch added a two-run single of his own. Joe Solemeno added the final RBI of the inning. Nyack scored twice in the bottom of the frame but failed to complete the comeback.

Chaputian went 2-for-4 with two RBI for Pace, while Roemer had two runs scored. Turnier finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored, and Pjura went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Michael Tamburino threw seven innings for Pace and allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out four. Brian Sundberg pitched the final three innings. He gave up two runs on five hits and struck out two. He also picked up the win to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Pace hosts Stonehill College for a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon at Finnerty Field.
