Pace Baseball Inches Closer to NCAA Tournament Bid

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University’s baseball team earned a key win against the University of New Haven on Wednesday as the Setters try to climb up the rankings and earn a bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Jonathan Hornung threw a complete game two-hit shutout as Pace (27-17 overall, 17-9 conference, 15-3 division) defeated the Chargers, 1-0, in New Haven. He gave up three hits and struck out five. Briarcliff’s Joe Lombardi drove in Ardsley’s Chris Roemer in the eighth inning for the only run of the game.

The Setters now hold a three-game lead over Southern Connecticut State University and Le Moyne College, both of which are regionally ranked, in the Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division. Pace was ranked eighth in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region Poll. The top six seeds advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Pace ends its regular season with a three-game series at home against Southern Connecticut at Finnerty Field. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at noon and will play the third and final game Sunday at 1 p.m.
