MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. Three Pace baseball players picked up awards for their play on the field this season, and a student committee raised money for cancer research.
Pitcher Michael Tamburino added to his collection of awards with a selection to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-East Region Second Team. Tamburino also made the Daktronics All-East Region Second Team and Northeast-10 Conference Second Team.
Senior outfielder Patrick Chaputian and junior catcher Joe Solemeno each made the 2012 East Region Rawlings Gold Glove First Team. Chaputian also made the NE-10 Conference Third Team. The two are now eligible for selection to the national Gold Glove team on Sunday as part of the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship in Cary, N.C.
Pace University Athletics, Colleges Against Cancer and the Pace Student Athletic Advisory Committee worked together to raise $2,579.50 in the 2011-12 academic year for the Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center of White Plains Hospital. The groups created T-shirts with the Pace Goes Pink logo and the phrase Fighting Cancer Together written underneath and sold them at seven athletic events at Pace throughout the year. They also collected donations.
