Pace Baseball Coach Named Conference Coach of Year

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Northeast-10 Conference named Pace University baseball coach Hank Manning as the Coach of the Year and named four players to the All-Conference Team.

Starting pitchers Michael Tamburino and Neil Pezzullo made the NE-10 Second Team, while outfielder Patrick Chaputian and designated hitter James Pjura made the Third Team.

Manning, who earned the Coach of the Year honor for the first time in his career, led Pace to a 29-19 record and the NE-10 Southwest Division title with a 17-4 record in the division. The Setters, picked seventh in the division in the preseason poll, earned the top seed in the conference tournament but lost in the first round.

Tamburino finished the season 7-2 with a 1.48 ERA in 11 starts. He struck out 74 hitters in 85 innings and threw four complete games. He finished fifth in the conference in ERA, eighth in strikeouts and tied for fifth in wins and complete games. Tamburino was sixth in the country in hits per nine innings and 14th in ERA.

Pezzullo had a season to be proud of, as well, with a 6-2 record and 1.90 ERA in eight starts. He recorded 63 strikeouts in 71 innings with three complete games. He was tenth in the conference in strikeouts, tied for eighth in wins and tied for 10th in ERA. Pezzullo ranked 15th in the nation in both ERA and hits per nine innings.

Chaputian led the Setters with 60 hits and was second on the team with a .296 batting average. He was also second in on base percentage at .370 and fourth with a .349 slugging percentage. Chaputian had two triples (tied for first on the team), eight stolen bases (tied for second), 22 RBI (tied for fourth) and 22 runs scored (tied for fifth).

Pjura led Pace with a .317 batting average, .401 on-base percentage, .448 slugging percentage, 27 RBI and 65 total bases. He tied for first on the team in doubles with 10 and tied for second with 46 hits. He ranked third in runs with 24 and home runs with three. Pjura earned NE-10 All-Rookie Team honors last year.
