Martineson Leads Pace Past Queens College

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Brandon Martineson’s career day led Pace past Queens College in a 14-8 win Thursday.

Martineson went two-for-three, smashed two home runs and drove in five. James Pjura went three-for-five with three RBIs as Pace improved to 17-14 overall.

The Setters next take the field against division foe American International College for a three-game series. The teams will play a doubleheader in Springfield, Mass., on Saturday at noon and will play the third game Sunday at 1 p.m.

Swimming and Diving:

The Northeast-10 Conference named sophomore Kaitlyn Lynch to its academic all-conference team for the 2011-12 winter season. Lynch double majors in criminal justice and psychology and swims the freestyle, backstroke and butterfly for Pace. She had a 3.69 GPA during the season.

Golf:

Pace’s golf team placed second at the Mike Bello Invitational with a team score of 323. Rob Sorrentino finished seventh with an individual round of 78. Pace will next participate in the UMass-Lowell River Hawk Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Meadow Creek Golf Club in Dracut, Mass.

Women’s Tennis:

The team earned its first win of the season with a 9-0 sweep of conference opponent American International College. Pace is now 1-11 overall.

Simona Mrazova swept a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles, and Liz Plakhotnaya earned a 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 2 singles.

Pace ends its season with a conference road match against University of New Haven at the Amity School.
