Dobbs Ferry's Cialini No-Hits Briarcliff

Alex Cialini wasn’t worried about run support because her Dobbs Ferry teammates scored runs in bunches early, so the right-hander just relaxed and threw a sparkling no-hitter to lead the host Eagles in eliminating Briarcliff 15-0 in yesterday’s Class B softball opening-round game at the Springhurst School.

The No. 3 seed Eagles, who scored enough runs to shorten the game to five innings in a 15-run rule victory, will host No. 6 seed Irvington Tuesday in the quarterfinalsof  the Section 1 Class B tournament.

“I felt pretty good and just tried to keep them off balance and throw strikes,“ said Cialini, who struck out eight batters. “It was one of my better games as far as not allowing any hits. Everyone on the team can hit, so I just have to do my job.”

Cialini’s catcher, Jamie Corradina, just smiled when asked about her pitcher’s effort.

“It was maybe her best game all year,” Corradina said. “She’s good, but today she was very good.”

Dobbs Ferry’s offense was powered by Stevie Lane, who smashed two home runs and drove in eight runs. Cialini also cracked a home run and Kristin Ruff, Silje Falck-Pedersen, Bronwyn Bingham and Amy Steifel each had two hits for the Eagles, who scored at least two runs in each of the five innings.

“I’ve hit four home runs all season,” Lane said. “We all hit today. We want to keep up the offense.”
