Briarcliff's Young Wins State Schools Golf Title

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. – Briarcliff's Cameron Young, a freshman golfer at Fordham Prep High School, won the New York State Federation Athletic Association championship Sunday with a 1-over par 72 on the Bethpage Black course in Long Island.

Young, who was a district qualifier for the U.S. Open Golf Championship before missing the final qualifying cut last week, opened with a score of 33 on the front nine to place first among 24 of the state's best high school golfers.

Young was the Catholic High Schools Athletic Association title last week with a 2-under 70 on the James Baird Golf Course in Putnam Valley to qualify. The Federation championship includes high school athletes from public, parochial, private and New York City schools.
