Briarcliff Lacrosse Rallies Past Blind Brook

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Briarcliff allowed three goals in the first quarter to visiting Blind Brook on Tuesday but rallied for a 5-4 victory.

The Bears scored with a little more than five minutes to play in the fourth quarter to break the 4-4 tie and then locked the Trojans down in the final minutes to secure the win.

“That’s the game of lacrosse. Last two minutes, you know you’ve got to keep it in the box,” said Briarcliff coach Louis Rosten. “The last two minutes is tough. You’ve got to have good stick skills and you’ve got to be able to move the ball and move your bodies and a lot of guys are gassed. We have a small roster so it’s tough for use sometimes.”

Ben Adler led Briarcliff with three goals, while John Kulik scored all four goals for Blind Brook.

The Trojans got a clean look at the goal with about four seconds left, but Briarcliff goalie Russell Cocozza was there to stop them and the ball sailed a bit high over the net.

Cocozza said the team fired itself up after the Trojans’ strong first quarter.

“Battling back from that, I have to say that all of us picked it up,” Cocozza said. “We all talked. We all said, ‘It’s our field. We’ve got to win this game. We only got one. Let’s go, guys.’ We’ve got another ten in the future and we’re looking forward to those games now.”
