Victoria Trentini enjoyed field hockey when she first began playing in seventh grade.
Coach Adams recruited me and said I was going to be her goalie when I was a freshman, said the current Briarcliff senior.
As Trentini continued playing and developing, she didnt realize how good she was until she received a pep talk from a special person.
My brother, who passed away, loved watching me play and he told me I was really amazing, Trentini said.
As a result of her brothers inspiring words, Trentini discovered her favorite sport and established herself as one of Section 1s finest goalies. Trentini, a four-year starter, would be instrumental in leading Briarcliff to the Section 1 Class C title, a regional championship and berth in the state final four.
Trentini will take her game to the college level next year at Hamilton in Clinton, N.Y,
I played field hockey because it was different and I just wanted to play, Trentini said. Being the goalie, I got to play the entire game. I liked it, but I didnt love it then. After my brother told me how good I was, I began playing travel for coach (Sharon) Sarsen and thats when I started loving field hockey. I realized how much better I could be. Once you love something, you want to put everything into it.
Trentini, who fnished with 26 shutouts and 482 saves, put everything into her varsity career, especially her senior year. She and her classmates concluded an excellent four-year run with the title.
Winning a sectional title, a regional title and going to states was incredible because I was playing all of the girls who I played with when I started, said Trentini, who will major in Mathematics and plans to go for a Masters in Architecture. I love all of them and the experience we had can never be taken away from us. I couldnt have asked for a better ending to a field hockey season.
