Briarcliff's Carey Graduates From Coastal Carolina

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Two Westchester County residents have graduated from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C. 

Deanna Carey from Briarcliff Manor and Andrea Sperduto from Harrison were among 1,081 undergraduate and graduate candidates for degrees at Coastal Carolina University's spring 2014 commencement ceremony. 

Carey earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sperduto earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication.

U.S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey, the commencement speaker, urged the class of 2014 to embrace the responsibility their education has given them, to pursue the truth and to cultivate a sense of historical awareness and civic duty.

Trethewey received the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters at the ceremony.
