Just two Briarcliff school board members who sat on the board in 2011 will be on the board in 2013.

With both board President Guy Rotondo and Trustee Eric Bashford not seeking re-election in May, newcomers Dina Brantman and Michael Haberman went uncontested to join the Briarcliff Board of Education. An unexpected third member also joined the board a couple of months after the election when former vice president Rosella Ranno resigned.

Ranno previously filed a harassment case against fellow board member Sal Maglietta in 2011 and reached a settlement in May. Ranno filed a police complaint against Maglietta in May 2011 stating that on May 17, 2011, Maglietta “pushed her shoulder, then walked over to a crowd of friends saying in a loud voice, ‘She's nasty and angry. I didn't push her.’ ”

Board members said in July they were notified by Superintendent of Schools Neal Miller that Ranno resigned “for personal reasons” June 30, exactly one year before her term was to expire. Ranno did not return calls for comment about her resignation.

Jonathan Satran filled the vacancy through appointment in August after beating out two other candidates, Wei Zhao and John Zade. The appointment is set to end May 21.

“I’m volunteering to join the board to make sure the school district remains the strong educational foundation it has been since we moved here,” Satran said.

Satran also chaired the finance subcommittee that proposed the approved $10 million school bond. “The last 10 years I've spent working as a financial analyst so I’m confident I bring a strong financial background,” he said.
