BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. More than $50,000 is set to benefit and enhance the Briarcliff Manor schools, money all raised at the Briarcliff Manor Education Foundations Spring Event.
The annual fundraiser April 20 at Trump National Golf Club raised $10,000 more than 2011. Organizers say the money will be used to award grants and fund initiative projects that are unable to be included in the districts budget and will enhance the education of the Briarcliff students. Foundation officials say it has awarded nearly $1 million in grants to the Briarcliff Manor Union Free School District since its inception in 1995.
The foundation is very pleased to have raised over $51,000, said Liz Susman Karp, co-president of the foundation. Despite difficult economic times, we were still able to raise $10,000 more than last year, and we are gratified that people recognize the importance of Briarcliff Public Schools to our community.
In the past year, the foundation has granted $11,600 for French horns for the music program; audio and video equipment worth more than $5,000 for Todd School; microscopes for the forensic science and biology programs at Briarcliff High School worth $3,700; and dozens of other grants, according to foundation records.
The fundraiser included live and silent auctions and an appearance by Anthony Mason of the New York Knicks. For the first time, this years fundraiser included sponsorships from various organizations. Mark Cuatt, general manager of Club Fit, said the organization was proud to be the events title sponsor.
For us it was a pleasure to work with the BMEF, in particular (event co-chair) Marleigh Rutman, Cuatt said. When we have an opportunity to align with an organization who has such a commitment to a great cause, we are pleased to do so.
