“I am thrilled and honored,” Silverman said in a statement. “The STANYS conference is an invaluable opportunity to participate in a professional learning community focused on improving science education for all students and making connections between professional scientists and science education."

BHS Principal Debora French, who recommended Silverman to STANYS, noted the teacher’s exceptional contributions to the school.

“Since 2009, Silverman has proven herself as an outstanding and versatile science teacher,” said French. “She is a super teacher who demonstrates the highest work ethic and professionalism. She has the ability to connect, relate and synthesize the curriculum for all levels of student abilities. Silverman is highly respected by her colleagues, administrators, parents and students.”

Silverman will receive her award at the STANYS 119th annual conference, held from Nov. 1 through Nov. 4 in Rochester.
