BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. -- The Briarcliff Middle School Future City Club recently won the Best Communications System Award by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) at the recent Future Cities competition held at the Sony Wonder Technology Lab in New York City.
Seven students made the trip, where they answered questions from a panel of judges. Three of the students presented the club’s model city, “Bearsville.”
The Future City Competition is a national, project-based learning experience where students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade imagine, design, and build cities of the future. Students work as a team with an educator and engineer mentor to plan cities using SimCity software; research and write solutions to an engineering problem; build tabletop scale models with recycled materials; and present their ideas before judges.
