ZipRealty's ranking of "Best Places for Families to Live" compares the availability of highly ranked schools and the affordability of local real estate. The schools ratings are based on test score data and student/teacher ratios.
Briarcliff's schools rated a 9.9 in the survey, out of a possible 10.
The report ranks housing in terms of median price per square foot of housing, and Westchester came in at $250, considerably below the 10th best place to live - Orange County, Calif., which is $328 - but also much higher than the highest-ranked place, the Minneapolis area, which is $112 per square foot.
The ranking also listed possible weekend activities for a family in Briarcliff Manor as taking a drive along the Hudson River or enjoying "some shopping on Briarcliff Manor’s charming, tree-lined streets."

ZipRealty is a residential real estate brokerage firm that serves 25 major metropolitan areas around the country.
This was the first time ZipRealty has done the best places for families ranking.
"When searching for a home, many families are looking to buy in high-performing school districts, but they don’t want to break the bank doing so (since good schools are often in affluent areas)," the report said.
