Samantha Fishman, who teaches English at Briarcliff High School, was named a “2016 Educator of Excellence” by the New York State English Council.
According to Jamie Mandel, coordinator of the school’s English Department, Fishman “is a voracious reader who infuses her lessons with her appreciation of The New York Times.”
The supportive atmosphere Fishman creates in her classroom helps her students become more well-read, thoughtful and critically aware, Mandel added.
Fishman will be formally recognized at a ceremony in Albany next month at the council’s annual conference.
The teacher “embodies many of the best attributes needed in to be an educator: intellectual curiosity, persistence, passion and moral fiber,” Mandel said.
