BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. For a few Briarcliff High School students, it took 15 minutes to get ready. Others spent hours making sure the day would be perfect.
On Thursday evening, all of the students came together for traditional photos and time with their families at Briarcliff Manors Law Memorial Park. The evening awaited the students attending Briarcliff High Schools Senior Prom. But before they could head off to the Glen Island Harbour in New Rochelle, the students posed for a few lasting memories with a few close family members and friends.
It means so much to us parents because you never really know how much youre going to miss them until theyre gone, said parent Marcia Hawthorne. Weve been up since about 6 a.m. running around. Yesterday was the same thing. But its been a lot of fun and its all because were so proud of them.
Hawthorne said she knew every bit of the preparation was worth it when she saw her daughter, 16-year-old Deja Sutherland, smile after getting ready. Before Deja left for New Rochelle, she had to thank her mom one last time.
Getting ready for this takes forever, Deja said. You have to get your nails done, your hair done and you have to find the perfect dress. If its not perfect, then it takes even longer. My mom did everything and she had to listen to me yelling and complaining about everything and I think she took it the hardest but she was great.
Junior Caroline Davey, 16, could relate.
You start early in the morning and its really non-stop, she said. I had to remember to stop for a bit to eat lunch because with everything else, I didnt plan that into my schedule.
Carolines date, senior John Alecci, had a different story about getting ready.
I gave myself 15 minutes to get ready, he said with a laugh. But I love this and we all love this. The ladies look absolutely gorgeous and the men are just as gorgeous.
