BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. – James Kaishian, superintendent of the Briarcliff Manor School District, accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in front of faculty and staff on the day before school doors opened to students this year.

Wearing a suit in front of district employees, Kaishian had a bucket filled with ice and water poured over his head.

“I was called out by faculty to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and they caught up to me during the Superintendent’s Conference Day before I had a chance to respond,” he shared. “It was a real life lesson on the perils of procrastination.”

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is part of the ALS Association’s effort to raise awareness of Lou Gehrig’s Disease and fund research to combat the disease. As of the end of August, people participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge have raised more than $100 million for the organization, according to a press release.

To keep the campaign going, Kaishian called upon the Department of Athletics Staff and coaches to complete the challenge.

“ALS is a very important cause and I am happy to have contributed in raising awareness and helped in funding continued research,” Kaishian said. “I think the faculty and staff appreciated kicking the year off with a splash.”
