Brigida LoMonaco, a radiography student from Madison, and Brian Sager, a nursing student from Branford, were both recognized for their academic achievements and leadership accomplishments recently at the State Capitol during the annual All-Connecticut Academic Team awards ceremony.
"In today's world, intellectual achievement is admirable but academic excellence coupled with a commitment to service and leadership will set these caregivers apart," said Michael Gargano, Jr., president of St. Vincent's College.
Phi Theta Kappa's Beta Omicron Alpha chapter at St. Vincent's College celebrated its 10th anniversary this spring, when 17 students were inducted during an afternoon ceremony with family, friends, staff and faculty. Since its inception, the chapter has led community service projects and student leadership within the college community. This year, PTK is organizing Project Graduation, a food drive benefitting the Bridgeport Rescue Mission.
The 20 students chosen for the 2016 state team also represented the State of Connecticut in the All-USA Academic Team Competition and the Coca-Cola Scholars Competition. The ceremony was sponsored by Northwestern Connecticut Community College, the Board of Regents for Higher Education and Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society of two-year colleges.
