New Canaan Police Officer Suspected Of Fight, Placed On Leave

NEW CANAAN, Conn. —A New Canaan police officer has been placed on administrative leave, after a complaint reports that he was in a physical altercation while off-duty, a news release from the police department said. 

The officer was at the Tequila Mockingbird Restaurant in New Canaan on Feb. 23 when the altercation took place, the release said. A group of people reported the incident to the police department, and added that someone with the off-duty officer used racially offensive language, the release said.

The department has consulted with the State Attorney in Stamford and began a criminal investigation, the release said. The officer, who was not named in the release, will remain on leave until the end of the investigation, the release said.
