BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. -- In Tuesday's village election, Briarcliff Manor voters will have their choice of candidates for Village Mayor as an independent candidate has emerged.

Briarcliff resident Laura Morris will be featured as an independent candidate in this year's election for Village Mayor. She will challenge incumbent Village Mayor William Vescio who will be running for his fifth term as mayor. Vescio was nominated by the People's Caucus of Briarcliff Manor in January.

Two seats are open on the Village Board of Trustees with two candidates seeking election. Incumbent Lori Sullivan will run for re-election, also running on the People's Caucus of Briarcliff Manor. Newcomer Mark Wilson is joining her on the People's line, running for the seat that will be vacated by Deputy Mayor David Venditti. Venditti chose not to run again after serving for the past 10 years. His term, along with the terms of Vescio and Sullivan, will end April 1. Mayors and trustees serve two-year terms.

Howard Code is in line to become the new Village Justice after he defeated Laurie Sullivan, 227-54, in the January caucus. Code, also running on the People's line, is set to replace Village Justice Fred Weinstein, who is not seeking re-election after serving for the past 17 years.

Voters can fill in write-in votes for all three races in the election set for Tuesday, March 19. Voting will take place at the Youth Center at 5 Van Lu Van behind Village Hall. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
