Barbieri's "Once Upon a Lie" is set in an unidentified northern Westchester village, and Oster's "The Commuter" starts on the platform of the Croton-Harmon train station.

Galef queries them on what has inspired them to become writers, where their expertise comes from and how they combine writing with the rest of their lives. They both have amusing stories to tell about the advice and techniques that they used when getting started as writers.

While Barbieri talks about putting ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances somewhere in the Hudson Valley, Oster's inspiration comes from the circumstances of his life as a journalist in Mexico, Germany, New York City and Washington, D.C.

"It adds so much to our communities to have writers like these among us,"said Galef. "I can't wait to read the next books they are working on right now."
