Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnev, 19, was found alive inside a boat parked in the backyard of a Watertown home, NBC reported at 8:45 p.m. Friday.

He was discovered less than a half-hour after authorities lifted the lockdown and was apprehended about 90 minutes later.

Update 8:30 p.m.: Several news agencies were reporting that Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been pinned down in a landlocked boat Friday night in a residential neighborhood of Watertown, Mass.

Reporters at the scene indicate that several gunshots have been fired, and according to NBC News, a police negotiator was on or arriving at the scene.

Tsarnaev's condition was unknown, and whether he has explosive devices with him has not been disclosed.

Original story: Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick lifted the lockdown order for Boston and surrounding towns Friday evening, but Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev still remained at large.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have a positive result at this point,” Massachusetts State Police Col. Timothy Alben said.

Tsarnaev fled on foot following a shootout with police early Friday in which his brother and fellow bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev died, Alben said.

Authorities said they would beef up patrols in the Boston suburb of Watertown, where the Tsarnaev brothers lived but said residents should remain on alert.

“We’re asking the public to stay vigilant,” said Gov. Deval Patrick, stressing that Tsarnaev was considered dangerous.

Patrick said the state could not remain paralyzed under lockdown indefinitely. Officials believe Tsarnaev remained in the state.

Authorities said the houses and buildings on 20 streets in Watertown were searched extensively throughout the day, but Tsarnaev was not found.

Massachusetts State Police Col. Timothy Alben said during a press conference Friday evening that Watertown police will be supplemented by additional state police patrols over the next few days while the investigation continues.

Added Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, authorities “have a lot of leads” concerning Tsarnaev but did not elaborate.
