Police officers were able to follow a trail of debris and gasoline to track down a motorist who drove through a fence with a blood-alcohol content nearly triple the legal limit in Northern Westchester.

The Yorktown Police Department received a call from a Hanover Street resident at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, who reported that a driver had just left the scene of a crash after driving through a wooden fence.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers were able to follow the debris and leaking fluid trail back to the 53-year-old driver’s house, which was right down the road. Once they followed the trail to its conclusion, they found the driver - whose name was not released by police - standing next to his car, allegedly intoxicated.

Police proceeded to arrest the man, who was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content greater than .18 percent, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to maintain his lane. Following his arraignment, the man was released on his own recognizance and is due back in Yorktown Justice Court on Tuesday to answer the charges.
