Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino Jr. announced on Tuesday that Greenburgh resident Juan Sumba Duchi has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after being found guilty by a jury of felony counts of first-degree attempted rape, second-degree assault and third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, for an incident in 2015.

According to Scarpino, at approximately 10 p.m. on Dec. 22, 2015, Duchi allegedly drove his ex-girlfriend to an isolated Fisher Avenue parking lot, where he demanded she have sex with him. When his ex-girlfriend refused, she “begged (Duchi) to take her home,” before he “became enraged and attacked her,” breaking her nose and then attempting to rape her in the car, Scarpino said.

Duchi’s ex-girlfriend was able to fight him off and escaped the vehicle, Scarpino said. Duchi then went after her again, kicking and punching her while she lay on the ground, breaking her collarbone by stomping on it. A passerby heard the struggle and called 911, while two others in the vicinity came to her aid and pulled Duchi off her.

Police arrived within minutes and Duchi was apprehended at the scene. He has been remanded to state prison. As part of his sentence, Duchi must register as a sex offender prior to his release from prison.
