Man Charged With Possessing Loaded Gun In Sprain Brook Parkway Stop

A 20-year-old man who was pulled over for having an inoperable tail light on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh was discovered to have a loaded weapon, state police said.

A Hyundai Sonata driven by Saul R. Colon of the Bronx was stopped at approximately 1 a.m. Friday.

When the troopers approached the vehicle, they detected an odor of marijuana emanating from within the vehicle, police said. Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, Colon, unlawfully possess a loaded unregistered revolver handgun and an expandable baton, according to police.

Colon was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree (a Class C felony) and criminal possession of a weapon (fourth degree, a Class A misdemeanor).

He was arraigned in the Greenburgh Court by Judge Delores Scott Brathwaite and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
