Man Charged With DWI After Sideswiping Guardrail On Route 118, Police Say

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Yorktown police have arrested a 73-year-old town resident on DWI charges after his vehicle allegedly sideswiped a guardrail, authorities said.

The arrest came about when police responded to a report of a vehicle being driven erratically about 10:22 p.m. Friday, according to officials.

The caller said the vehicle was swerving into the opposite traffic lane, sideswiped a guardrail on Route 118 and kept going, police report.

An officer dispatched to the area located the vehicle and the operator, identified as Hugo P. Moreno, at the Gulf station at 2001 Commerce St., according to officials.

After an investigation at the scene, Moreno was taken into custody and transported to Yorktown police headquarters for processing, police report.

The suspect has been charged with driving while intoxicated and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or greater, both unclassified misdemeanors, along with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, a traffic infraction, according to officials.

After processing, Moreno was released on $100 cash bail to a responsible party, police report.

The defendant is due back in Yorktown Justice Court on Friday, Sept. 9, according to officials.
